Mazda 1300 Chasis Rail Rust

Whilst the engine was out of the 1300, I took it upon myself to clean a bit and check a few things you can't normally do with the engine in the car. Looking at the chasis rail I found a lot of rust. These cars have a fairly dodgey voltage regulator which breaks down, overcharges the battery, which boils and spills acid all over the chasis rail below, where it has a very convenient place to pool. 5 years earlier the top part of the rail was replaced before I owned it, and 3 years before now I built a new swaybar mount because it had rusted out from the same problem.
